Workday | Welcome to the future of HCM

Workday’s Barbry McGann introduces the platform’s capabilities for managing a skills-based workforce. The video explains how Workday’s Skills Miner uses machine learning to map a company’s real-time “Skills Supply” from internal sources—like resumes, performance data, and feedback. It matches this to “Skills Demand” based on open roles and business priorities. The ad also highlights strategic planning features for upskilling, hiring, and mobility. It ends with a forward-looking view: an open network powered by blockchain for trusted, verifiable credentials. The core message—Workday gives companies agility, insight, and trust to build for the future.

The Formula (That Works for an Explainer)

Painful Truth = Skills are vital but hard to track

As teams grow more diverse and dynamic, understanding who can do what—today and tomorrow—is complex.
Lesson: Start by naming the friction your buyers face.

Data-Driven Solution = Real-time Skills Supply

Workday shows how it pulls from live internal data to map skillsets, then overlays demand signals from jobs and goals to identify gaps.
Lesson: Break down your product into a clear before/after scenario using data.

Strategic Use Case = Talent planning at scale

The video connects the tech to real-world actions: upskilling employees, planning career paths, and recruiting to close critical gaps.
Lesson: Always anchor product features to tangible business benefits.

Future Vision = Verified credentials via blockchain

The ad ends by showing where it’s going—an open, secure talent ecosystem with validated skill credentials.
Lesson: Close by showing long-term relevance and innovation to signal confidence and leadership.

Humor Breakdown

There’s no humor in this ad—it’s purposefully serious, clean, and direct. The tone, voiceover, and visuals align to deliver credibility and strategic weight.
Lesson: Not every B2B ad needs to entertain—sometimes authority and clarity are more valuable.

Final Verdict

Workday delivers a strong, feature-focused narrative that speaks to HR and business leaders grappling with skills visibility. It walks the line between practical and visionary—explaining how its system works today, while planting a flag for where workforce tech is going. By balancing internal capabilities with future integrations, Workday positions itself as the platform for long-term talent strategy.

Understanding the B.R.A.V.E. Scoring System

The B.R.A.V.E. scoring system uses AI to deliver an unbiased evaluation of top-of-the-funnel B2B brand ads. It measures potential impact, memorability, and effectiveness by assessing five key components of a video ad or commercial. This system gauges an ad's capacity to drive brand recall and enhance salience, ensuring that creative work not only captures attention but also leaves a lasting impression.

What B.R.A.V.E. Stands For:

Each letter represents a key factor in determining an ad’s success:

  • BBoldness: Is the ad original, creative, or daring? Does it break away from generic B2B marketing, or is it just another forgettable corporate video?
  • RRelevance: Does it connect with a real buyer pain point? Is it addressing a specific frustration or need, or just listing product features?
  • AAttention: Does it grab and hold attention in the first few seconds? Is it visually or tonally engaging, or easy to skip?
  • VVibe: Does it create an emotional response—laughter, recognition, or surprise? Or does it feel like just another corporate info dump?
  • EEffectiveness: Will buyers remember the brand when they need a solution? Does the ad make an impact that lasts beyond the moment?

How It’s Applied to B2B Video Rating

Each video is scored 1 to 10 in all five categories, based on how well it meets the criteria. The total score (out of 50) is then divided by 5 to give a final B.R.A.V.E. score out of 10.

For example:

  • An ad scoring B-8 | R-9 | A-7 | V-6 | E-8 has a total of 38/50.
  • The final B.R.A.V.E. score is 7.6/10.

Why It Matters

B2B ads often struggle with being bland, forgettable, or ineffective. The B.R.A.V.E. system ensures they are judged by their ability to break through, connect with buyers, and drive action.

Simply put: If your ad isn’t B.R.A.V.E., it’s invisible.
