And most comparison pages are written by ChatGPT.

Or by someone that is NOT in the same reality as the person that is actually buying.

So I’ve decided to do my own research and create a list of the best B2B ad agencies for each category of advertising.

All from the perspective of a Director of Marketing (my position) for a CMO.

And if you’re not a CMO, then chances are you’ll be presenting your buying research to them 😉

How I picked the best B2B Ad Agencies

This list is built around real-world criteria:

1) My Experience as a Marketing Director

As a marketing director in the B2B space, I’ve worked with CEOs and CMOs, managing campaigns that run across every major channel. From increasing mental availability to demand gen to category design, I’ve seen a lot of what works and what doesn’t.

2) Feedback from CMOs

I’ve looked at feedback from real CMOs and senior marketing leaders who’ve worked with these agencies. What do they love? What frustrates them? What do they think of the agency’s POV? That’s the kind of insight you won’t find on an agency’s own website.

Liam Moroney has spent most of his career in B2B Demand Gen. And it’s exactly why he understands at such a deep level that demand gen can’t fix a brand awareness problem. His POV on Brand Advertising is extremely close to my own (seen in the next review). His understanding for Category Entry Points, aligning B2B brand and performance, and getting buy-in for brand is absolutely unmatched. These guys are growing by the day so schedule a call with them before they’re out of your budget.

Almost every CMO I’ve talked to has agreed emphatically that brand makes performance work better, but struggle to get the exec team on board with it. These guys solve that problem.

When it comes to using Linkedin and only Linkedin, Justin Rowe and his agency Impactable have produced some amazing results. They also make the plan pretty simple to understand mapping it out with graphics (check out his content), which is a breath of fresh air to every busy CMO. If you’re a strong believer in retargeting, you’ll like Impactable.

One small criticism: I have heard that they are a bit lacking when it comes to the creatives used – fine for performance advertising, maybe not so much for brand advertising where creative is king.

If you’re in B2B Marketing and you haven’t heard of Chris Walker or Refine Labs yet, I’d be pretty surprised.

Refine Labs definitely isn’t a typical ad agency – it is much heavier on the strategic side and much more progressive than most. They don’t measure MQLs and CPC; they measure Pipeline, Sales Velocity, and CAC. I think they’re also one of the very few B2B marketers that define Demand Creation as making a problem more visible in the mind of buyers to create the perceived need of your category of solution. This POV is reflected quite clearly in the ads that they create and manage.

Refine Labs doesn’t just run ads. They dig deep to understand your overall spending and where to reallocate it. Most notably, they’ve done a ton of research on how much B2B companies are overspending on Google Ads more than Dark Social (social platforms where it’s not easy to track attribution). In one analysis they did, most B2B companies get less than $0.50 in new revenue for every $1 spent on Google search.

I thought the testimonial and results that Refine Labs helped Clari achieve were especially interesting. A 67% decrease in advertising cost of acquisition, 36% decrease in cost per sales qualified opportunity, and 64% increase in win rates.

Agency specializing in creating and executing advertising campaigns that target business-to-business audiences using out-of-home media formats (i.e. digital billboards).

Marketer’s Review

Many B2B companies throw OOH Advertising off the table of advertising to do. But that’s because they don’t know they can do it with tech that helps them reach the right people and measure more than brand awareness. A CMO friend of mine once said that getting buy-in from the exec team for certain ad campaigns is harder than the campaign itself. Which is why when you can get more proof that things are working, the easier it is to get buy-in. Onescreen.ai uses AI to get this done.

Case study

One case study that stood out to me was how their client Reprise surrounded the B2BMX conference. Reprise wasn’t just at the conference, they surrounded it with OOH ads at the baggage claim, used an LED truck that circle the conference center, and placed ads in ride-sharing cars around it. If you can surround your ideal clients with the right message at a conference like that, the WOM can spread like wildfire.
